Annick talks about her first match in A'dam

Hey everybody!

Day 1 at the Doubles Masters in Amsterdam. It was a long day waiting for us before our match, which was not before  6pm. We played against the first seeds and local heros Esther Vergeer and Sharon Walraven. Our opponents immediately put a lot of pressure on our game and we had some difficulties trying to find the good rhythm in the match. We made too many unforced errors the first set and lost 6-2. Although the loss of the first set we kept fighting and started the second set with a break of serve. From 2-0 up we went to 2-3 down thanks to our opponents who were very dangerous at the net and played some nice volleys. We made a strong start in the second set and kept up the right spirit to come back in this set. Although our efforts, the Dutch pair kept playing at high level. In the end we lost our first match 6-2 6-2.

Tomorrow we will play third match at 15h30 against the British team Jordanne Whiley and Lucy Shuker. They are the number four seed this week. Last Wimbledon, Marjolein and I were able to beat them in straight sets. We are very motivated to be victorious again tomorrow!

Talking about Wimbledon, for me this is the most exciting grand slam of the year. As a top 8 player in the world you are invited to play four grand slams a year (Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open). At Wimbledon the best doubles teams in the world are competing on the ‘holy’ grass. Besides playing some great matches on grass, you also experience some unforgettable moments off court. I got the unique opportunity to meet David Beckham in 2010. He is a very charming man and very interested in wheelchair tennis. He was there at Wimbledon to support Andy Murray. On the same day I also met Orlando Bloom (a British actor) with whom I had a short conversation. Unforgettable moments!

Unfortunately we do not get the chance to meet any famous superstars like David Beckham here at the Doubles Masters in Amsterdam. But I heard that a member of the Dutch Royal family is coming to visit the event on Sunday.

Tomorrow on day 2 there will be 8 matches on court and hopefully we can win our match tomorrow!
See you soon!
